Meet and Greet our General Manager Announcement

This coming Thursday, July 3, at 1:00 we are having a very special dessert social in the ballroom.  Our new General Manager, Lisa Harold, is going to host a "Meet and Greet" for her staff.  We're excited to hear the introductions and learn about their responsibilities.  Lisa is serious when she says she wants to keep in touch with our residents so feel free to send her a welcome message via her email at lharold@suncommunities.com

You can bet I'll be at this event with my camera and my reporter's hat to keep you informed.

_______________

The wheels are in motion to get all this remodeling done!  Our maintenance crew is working hard to get EVERYTHING moved out of these areas so walls can be moved, floors redone, painting, etc.  etc.   It certainly is interesting to watch.

Front desk reception area:

This is the area behind the front desk.  Look at all the wires where the phone lines, computers, security cameras, etc. are being moved.

Counters and cupboards are still being pulled from the Activities room.

Nick, Jaime, and Luis are on duty.

The Zuni Room is getting crowded!  Ed Brown is back there cutting tickets and helping MaryAnn get ready for all our upcoming events.  All those tickets are done on a standard paper cutter.  You rock Mr. Brown!  With MaryAnn in charge, I'm sure Ed "volunteers" for many chores.  :) lol

The new flooring has been installed in the billiards room.  It will look really nice when finished.....but for now we need a sign that says "pardon our dust!"

Flooring is done in the new library and computer room combo.  It is covered to protect it while other work is being done.

Outside projects continue as well.  The wall to surround the trash dumpsters behind the sewing room is in progress.

This is indeed a summer for sprinkler and irrigation problems.  Our crews are constantly digging up and repairing water lines.

New houses continue to arrive.  This one is at Site 663 at the southeast end of the park on Cole Circle.  Darrell White reports that there will be two homes on this street and both are already sold.

We have over 3,000 palm trees in our park so trimming is a HUGE project.  Today was Jesse's turn to follow along and pick up the discarded fronds.

Don't try picking these up without the proper protective gloves!!

I saw the big plastic/tin recycling bin come in the other day so had to stay in the hot sun for a photo opportunity.  I never stopped to think about how that big bin was emptied.

There seems to be equipment to handle all these tough jobs.

Then, of course, while all these crews are hard at work, we residents do our best to enjoy ourselves.  Thank you to Loretta Spanton for treating us at our potluck happy hour with this beautiful dessert!

 Ya'll have a GREAT day!

Activities Relocates

The front desk staff is now located across the street in the sales office while the area is being remodeled.  Our new General Manager, Lisa Saber, wants to have her office "up front" where the people are so she is readily accessible.   Part of that foyer area will become her office.

Activities made the temporary move to the Zuni room.

This area will be remodeled too.

Meanwhile, Brandy Wood and MaryAnn Brown have managed to unpack so they can continue planning for the upcoming season.

Donna Cox is back in the mailroom.  As far as I know, no changes are planned in that department.

We entered the ballroom today for our Fiesta luncheon.  Tacos and all the fixings were served for a yummy lunch.  The electricians are already at work in the ballroom.  I believe they're going to install overhead fans in the room plus lots of painting and redecorating.

Here's another picture of the electrician I previously called "legs" because we only talked to him while he was on top of a ladder with his head above the ceiling tiles.  I learned today that David is a beekeeper!  That's exciting news because now when we find another bee nest, we can call David and he'll save the bees rather than having to destroy them.  Our world needs the bees!

From left to right:  Ed and MaryAnn Brown, Gail and Stan Tollison
Thanks for the nice taco lunch!

The Santan Room has become our haven for the summer afternoons.  We have lots of "toys" in there to keep us entertained.  We have a couple poker tables for our Monday, Wednesday, and Friday night games; a couple card tables for bridge and mahjong; a pool table, a ping pong table, a couple long tables for the jig saw puzzle people, and a couple easy chairs with a supply of books from the library.  Today Luis and Jaime installed a Wii game console so we can start a bowling tournament or a couple grueling tennis games.

Who says it gets boring here in the summer????  We have FUN.

And....of course....there is always a lovely pool for the evening enjoyment.  Tonight this gang hung out at the north pool while water volleyball met at the big pool.

I have more fun here than I ever did as a child in summer camp!

Pickleball News + More

I was just scanning through some of the other Palm Creek websites to see if anything new has been added.  Rosemary Reese has been busy updating the pickleball blog as players send her summer information about their beloved sport.

Check out this press release from none other than CNN regarding Tom and Ann Earley.  Click on the link below to watch the CNN video.

Tuesday, June 10, 2014

For years Tom and Ann have done much to support and grow the sport of pickleball.
When they leave Palm Creek and return to Georgia, they do more than most would even consider.
They have opened their home to all active adults who want to come and play.   Lessons are given to new comers who soon become skilled players. It has grown so much, that last year, they expanded the courts to play on to SIX.  Yes, these courts are on their home property. These courts are listed on USAPA.org under places to play.  For the past seven years they have also hosted an annual tournament.
It is no surprise that CNN showed up at on their doorstep.

Our Pottery people are still active in the summer too.  The room is open several days a week plus there are even some introductory classes for the newcomers.  Look at some of the stuff they've recently created.  Go to their blog at Potters of Palm Creek.  Thank you to Sandy Milner for keeping their blog updated.

Cute little garden trolls!

These honeybees are happy with a late blooming cactus flower at Mark and Cindy Nelson's house on Mountain Mirage.

Another kind of cactus is blooming for Chris and Linda Stewart at their pretty casita.

Our residents continue to stay cool and occupied at other hobbies.  Bev Johnson is an avid jigsaw puzzle fan.

Our hardy golfers are out on the links EVERY morning to take advantage of the cooler temps.

Work continues over behind the sewing room where they're planning to move the trash receptacles and allow for better access to that area.

All in a day's work:  Thought I'd take a minute to pay tribute to my hard-working hubby.  As we make our morning rounds for watching houses, we also take time to report any problems we may encounter.

Finding "water spouts" from broken lines or popped off sprinkler heads is a common every day occurrence.  Don fixes whatever he can and keeps an ample supply of plumbing parts in our cart.

Checking air conditioning units and thermostats......changing MANY batteries.

More sprinkler heads.

More sprinkler lines.

Rinsing and refilling water buckets for homeowners.

............and sometimes we just have to take time to enjoy the view.

Have a GREAT day.
